Picea pungens ‘Montgomery’ is an outstanding and industry standard silver-blue spruce that was originally part of the conifers accumulated by dedicated collector, Col. R.H. Montgomery. Prior to selling his Greenwich, Connecticut, estate, he donated his entire collection to the New York Botanical Garden, and this Picea pungens was named to honor him during the dedication of the Montgomery Conifer Collection in May, 1949. The original plant can still be seen there today. The slow-growing, dwarf spruce is globe-shaped when young, but it will eventually form a leader as it matures and develop an upright, broad shape that is wider than tall.

Acer x pseudosieboldianum Ice Dragon^® is a welcome addition to the Jack Frost^® collection of hardy garden maples from Iseli Nursery. This all-season tree has a cascading habit and was bred and selected to tolerate Zone 4 winters while still retaining the refined qualities of the less hardy Japanese maples. Spring begins as leaves unfurl blushed orange-red, quickly maturing to green. In summer, the finely divided, delicate appearing green leaves are durable and tolerant of sun and heat. Autumn brings foliage of a kaleidoscope of yellow, orange and red. After leaf drop, the sinuous and undulating branching structure is a visual treat during the long cold winter months.

Spirea is an old landscape staple, so what could one do that could possible earn it superlatives? Well, seedless and non-invasive would be a start; non-stop blooming would be even better. And these are exactly what makes Double Play Doozie spirea the most beautiful, innovative, ground-breaking spirea bush to ever grace a landscape. Standing Ovation^™ welcomes spring with loads of white flowers that often age to edible berries in June. Bold, bright, and beautiful: that's Winecraft Gold^™ smokebush. Round, waxy leaves emerge a sunny orange, soon take on a golden hue, then mature to a cheerful chartreuse for the season. In early summer, cloud-like green flower clusters cover the plant, and these turn into the pink "smoke" plumes that earn the plant its name. Naturally grows with a dense, oval shape that's ideal for adding a spot of bright color to partially shaded or sunny areas.

Francis Rivis displays deep blue tepals with white staminodes. Alpinas perform well in light conditions ranging from bright shade to hot sun. Also, they can be used as a climber, rambler or ground cover. Their delicate flowers are followed by attractive seed heads. These attributes make this hardy species one of the easiest and most versatile types of clematis to grow.

This unique and appealing variety showcases ruffled, violet-blue double blooms, with the best effect achieved through massed plantings in a garden. Blooming from late spring into summer, and potentially again later, it thrives in full sun and moist soil, yet it is highly adaptable.

Sometimes called Elephant Ears, this is a bold specimen perennial that needs a moist location. Plants form a clump of large, jagged-edged green leaves. Purplish black stems rise above in summer, bearing long spikes of bright-yellow daisy flowers. Superb for the back of the border, or at the waterside. An unusual centerpiece for a tub or large container. Both the flowers and leaves are great for cutting.

Moss Phlox forms a low mound or cushion smothered by tiny flowers in late spring.  Clip plants immediately after blooming to encourage a dense habit. Wonderful in the sunny rock garden, for edging, or in mixed containers. Requires good drainage. Drought tolerant, once established.

Low mounded shrub with small, yellow foliage making it a good contrast for any landscape with a darker backdrop. Good choice for attracting butterflies. Deer do not find this shrub particularly attractive and tend to pass over it. Best suited in mass plantings for small hedges along with foundations and borders.

This Flowering groundcover has a clumping habit and is commonly used in borders and rock gardens.

Plants form a mound of deep greens to black leaves, bearing showy spikes of flowers in mid to late spring. Excellent for combining with spring-flowering bulbs.

Be the first on your block with colorful blooms in spring with Black Hat^® rhododendron. This very early blooming rhododendron is a confection of ruffled lavender flowers in the first few weeks of spring, each a rounded cluster atop a spray of leathery evergreen foliage. It's the foliage that gives this plant its name, in fact - its a very dark purple-green, reaching near black tones, especially in cooler weather. An exciting improvement to Ninebark, Summer Wine combines the fine texture and compact branching of Physocarpus 'Nana' with the dark foliage of Physocarpus Diabolo. Summer Wine is an easy way to introduce wine-colored foliage into the home garden. It is fast-growing and has few, if any, pest problems. Its graceful, arching habit makes it very appealing in the landscape. It adds beautiful color and vibrancy to your garden, especially in spring. In early June it blooms with white button-like flowers that accent the leaves nicely. Pruning and other maintenance is rarely needed. Use it as a bold accent or part of a mixed border. Summer Wine may even be cut for use in arrangements. This is a trouble-free addition to either the home or commercial landscape.

Lotus Moon^™ Pearlbush is a profuse spring bloomer that is covered in white round flower buds resembling a string of pearls. The buds open to clear white blooms that completely cover the plant in April and May, attracting early butterflies. Flowers are borne on previous year’s growth so prune right after flowering. Lotus Moon^™ has bright green foliage on compact, upright, mounded plants.

Stately color in two extremes. The first is a refreshing bright green and cream, with hints of pale pink on the margins. The second is in fall when the whole plant erupts into a fabulous burgundy and hot pink duo. Even the stems are burgundy! If you’ve ever seen a tri-color beech, Sgt. Pepper^™ dogwood is a lot like that, but in a much easier to use form. With its large size, it makes a great anchor for the garden. You can position it at the back of the garden to work as a foundation plant, breaking up the straight lines of a building with its rounded form. It would also make an incredible hedge or specimen plant.

Just like the remarkable hour of twilight when fireflies light up the sky, intensely yellow flowers glow bright against the dark red foliage. As the season fades, dark red foliage becomes more intense. It's also easy to grow, so you'll have more time to relax and enjoy the view.

The newest rose in the Canadian Artists Series, Oscar Peterson is upright in habit with clean, glossy foliage. Flowers are pure white with yellow stamen. Extremely disease resisant.

Buds Yellow offers medium green foliage throughout the growing season. They are great for any garden setting whether used on its own or in mass plantings or small groupings.

Pinus mugo ‘Mops’ is an excellent dwarf selection that grows into a low, dense dome remaining compact without shearing. The mounding plant has a smooth appearance that comes from many evenly spaced needles growing at a uniform rate on abundant branchlets. During most of the year, ‘Mops’ displays a hint of gray/blue in its green, but during the crisp, cold months of winter, needles take on a warm, golden hue. It’s no wonder this choice is one of our most popular for confined spaces.
