'Eupatorium Maculatum' , also known as Joe-Pye Weeds,  are bold, architectural specimen plants, perfect for making a statement in the border. Plants forms a huge clump of coarse green leaves, bearing enormous umbrella-like heads of rosy-purple flowers in late summer.

This selection is a little more restrained in height, but still gets large and impressive.

A magnet to butterflies, this is also suitable for planting in a meadow or at the waterside. Excellent for cutting.

'Lakeside Paisley' Hosta produces heart-shaped leaves with wide and wavy margins. The narrow, creamy white markings in the centre of the leaves shoot out from the leafstalk in a feathered pattern. The thick leaves make a perfect background for the light lavender flowers that bloom in midsummer.

The Ure Pear Tree is a vigorous, cold-hardy variety that thrives in cooler climates. Known for its sweet, crisp pears with smooth, golden-brown skin, this tree offers high yields of delicious fruit. With stunningly large 12 in. (30cm) foliage the Frances Williams hosta is a popular pick!

Leaves are variegated with dark green centres and greenish-yellow lining, maturing into a cream-beige. Stems produce lavender blooms throughout spring and summer. The clump-forming perennial grows well in shady boarders, along walkways or in large containers. 

For best growth results plant in moist, well-drained soil.

A beautifully variegated mini hosta. Large, ovate leaves have green centers with brightly contrasting yellow margins. The margins are heavily rippled and give the leaves a lightly wavy overall effect. White flowers appear above the foliage in midsummer. A showy specimen for the shade!

No sunny border would seem complete without the familiar presence of Shasta Daisies. This is a very tall selection that exhibits excellent tolerance to summer heat and humidity.

Shasta Daisy flowers are large single white daisies with a yellow eye, valued in the garden and excellent for cutting. Removing faded flowers regularly will greatly increase the blooming time. May require staking if grown in rich soil.

Blanket Flowers are one of the longest-blooming perennials, well suited to hot sunny sites. This selection forms a low mound of olive-green leaves, with large daisy-like blooms. A great choice for edging, borders, rock gardens and containers.

Removing faded flowers will greatly extend the blooming season.

These will not tolerate wet, heavy clay soil, particularly in the winter.

Also known as Blue Cornflower, or Mountain Bluet.

This species of Bachelor Button is low to medium in height and well suited to growing in the sunny border. Plants form a bushy clump of grey-green leaves, setting off a display of clear-blue shaggy flowers in early summer.

Removing faded flower heads will encourage repeat blooming. Ruggedly hardy, this plant will grow in most types of soils and climate regions. Plants may be pruned back  in mid-summer to maintain a compact habit.

Makes for beautiful cut flower.

Chinese Lantern (Physalis alkekengi)  There is high value for this dried species in fall displays. In Japan, the seeds are used during the Bon Festival as offerings to guide the souls of the deceased. This plant spreads underground by rhizomes and should be contained in certain situations. Physalis is a close relative of the Cape Gooseberry but is not cultivated as a food crop. The fruit is tasteless and it should be noted that the unripe fruit and leaves are toxic if enough is ingested.

Delphiniums are the stars of the early summer border. Plants form a low mound of deeply-cut green leaves, bearing mounds of satiny flowers. Removing faded blooms at the base will encourage repeat blooming in fall. 

Cut back hard to encourage fresh foliage. Use a high phosphorous fertilizer each year, in early spring. 

Hot, humid summers can bring on potential mildew.

Garden Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This selection has long, feathery plumes of deep coral pink flowers, over a mound of elegant, lacy green leaves. Also thrives in tubs, or mixed containers. Excellent for cutting.

Fertilize in April and June.  Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest.

This Rudbeckia hirta is a stunner in the garden with huge bicolour blooms. Reaching heights of 36" and spread up to 24" is makes a great plant for mass groupings or as tall mid bed filler.

Widely grown as a commercial cut flower, this plant form a low clump of grassy leaves, bearing tall spikes of purple flowers beginning in midsummer.

 Can be planted in sunny border or meadow garden, or in containers.
