This fern leaf peony is among the first herbaceous peonies to emerge in the garden. It showcases small lipstick-red double blooms atop 16-18-inch stems, surrounded by finely cut, dainty leaves. While the plant and buds are highly cold-tolerant, it thrives best in well-drained soil or a raised bed under full sun

Ants are attracted to a sweet nectar on the buds of the peony plant but do not harm them in any way.
