Plants should be sheared back after blooming to rejuvenate the leaves and generally tidy the clumps up for the remainder of the growing season. May be divided in spring or early fall. Often self seeds around the garden.Â

The obedient plant can be an aggressive spreader so allow for this. One of the best features of this plant is its long bloom time, about a full month from late summer into fall. The blossoms are light shades of pink and white, a rarity among the hot, bold colours of fall. The flowers look good in a garden setting and also make good cut flowers.

‘Roundabout’ is a compact, green garden orb. Perhaps its color is better described as viridian, a sort of bluish green. Whatever color you perceive, it is a super hardy, symmetrical addition to the garden, like a spherical topiary that never needs shearing. Slow growing with needles in perfect scale to its small size, ‘Roundabout’ is a winner for today’s smaller landscapes. Loves full sun and well drained soil. ‘Roundabout’ was discovered at Iseli Nursery as a witch’s broom growing on Picea pungens ‘Green Spire’.

Delicate, green needles and short, slender branches give Larix decidua ‘Prag’ a soft, airy texture. Newer branches sweep gently upward and then spill down as they mature, giving ‘Prag’ a low, mounding form. Super cold hardy, this deciduous conifer is a great choice in some challenging garden conditions.

Larix decidua ‘Puli’ is an elegant alternative to the common L.d. ‘Pendula’. When staked, its slender branches create a narrow silhouette that is more dense and lighter green than ‘Pendula’. If unstaked, ‘Puli’ branches spread out slowly along the ground and make an effective ground-cover. Very attractive in gardens with an Asian aesthetic.Â

The outrageously large flower clusters on this profuse bloomer have individual florets with recurved petals that resemble hyacinth flowers. Long-lasting flowers held aloft on sturdy stems open white in summer and age to pale pink in fall. Easygoing and adaptable, Skyfall will be happy in sun or part shade and isn’t picky about soil type. Prune in late winter to shape.

Be the first on your block with colorful blooms in spring with Black Hat® rhododendron. This very early blooming rhododendron is a confection of ruffled lavender flowers in the first few weeks of spring, each a rounded cluster atop a spray of leathery evergreen foliage. It's the foliage that gives this plant its name, in fact - its a very dark purple-green, reaching near black tones, especially in cooler weather. This gives in undeniably drama and chic and really sets it apart from other early blooming rhodies. Thick, durable blooms ensure longer lasting blooms over a longer period, too.Â

An exciting improvement to Ninebark, Summer Wine combines the fine texture and compact branching of Physocarpus 'Nana' with the dark foliage of Physocarpus Diabolo. Summer Wine is an easy way to introduce wine-colored foliage into the home garden. It is fast-growing and has few, if any, pest problems. Its graceful, arching habit makes it very appealing in the landscape. It adds beautiful color and vibrancy to your garden, especially in spring. In early June it blooms with white button-like flowers that accent the leaves nicely. Pruning and other maintenance is rarely needed. Use it as a bold accent or part of a mixed border. Summer Wine may even be cut for use in arrangements. This is a trouble-free addition to either the home or commercial landscape.
