Thuja occidentalis ‘Zmatlik’ is medium green throughout spring and summer, but in winter, as temperatures fall, it puts on its winter coat of intense plum-bronze. The winter color is very dramatic and adds to the already interesting texture of this hardy narrow column. Small, scale-like sprays of foliage twist and curl creating a densely foliaged plant than can be enjoyed as a single specimen or planted as a screen. Found as a seedling by Mr. Zmatlik in the Czech Republic in 1984.

Tango Organic celery seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC! Improved breeding makes Tango the celery of choice for a wide range of growing conditions. It excels in southern Canada and the northern US. Its stringless stalks have very little fibre, but have a high water content and keep a remarkably refined taste. The leaves are strongly aromatic and useful in soups and savoury dishes of all kinds. Tango matures a little earlier than some of the others, and is recommended for market growers and home gardeners alike. Plus it's open pollinated, so it's well suited for seed saving. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
These seeds are coated with an inert, organically certified layer which helps to minimize clumping in storage and seed sowing machines. The coating is approved by organic certifiers in Canada, the US, EU, and Japan.

Cerastium is a very useful ground cover perennial, often grown in dry, sunny areas with poor soil. Plants form a low, fast-spreading mat of silvery-grey leaves, studded with tiny white star flowers in late spring and early summer. An indestructible choice for difficult sites, but be sure to plant this where its spreading habit will not become a problem. Beautiful spilling over rock walls or on steep sunny slopes, used as a lawn substitute. Also grows well in tubs or mixed containers. Easily divided in spring or fall. Plants should be clipped hard or mowed (to 2 inches) after blooming to maintain a tidy habit.

Expect good flavour and an ideal shape for juicing. Also good for freezing and canning. These big, dark orange carrots are 12-15cm (5-6") long, amazingly sweet. Royal Chantenay carrot seeds produce roots that grow to a uniform size and shape, so they are perfect for the market garden. These carrots are big and chunky, and can be grown to a really hefty size. Royal Chantenay is the standard carrot for heavy or shallow soils. The flesh has a fine grain and is reddish orange inside and out. Since it was first made available in 1952, it counts as an heirloom seed.

Smooth-skinned, bright red radishes with a very round, uniform shape. Cherriette is bred to perform in higher temperatures, so it holds better potential for harvesting into summer. The ideal production time is spring and fall. The pure white flesh of Cherriette is dense and crisp, with a sweet, hot flavour. This is a very uniform radish variety that is slow to develop pith. Its tops are short, but sturdy for bunching. Cherriette has out performed the open pollinated varieties in our trials. Try Cherriette in window box type containers. Plant short rows every two weeks from March to early May, and again in September and October for fall harvests.

Sow chive seeds at any time of year. Hardy, perennial, and easy to grow, the chopped stems and pink flowers add a fresh, mild green onion flavour to sandwiches, salads and baked potatoes. Clumps can be divided in spring or fall. If grown in containers, divide frequently enough to provide for constant lateral growth. Chives are surprisingly hardy and can be harvested all winter if given some protection from extreme cold. They are also quite drought tolerant, so they're good candidates for xeriscaping. The edible flowers are highly attractive to bumblebees, hoverflies, and other beneficial garden insects.
- Fresh, mild, green onion flavour
- Hardy and easy to grow
- Use stems and pink flowers
- Used dried flower stems in arrangements
