Prairie smoke (Geum triflorum) adds interest to a garden bed from early spring through to fall. This perennial is native to North American prairies. It gets its name from the long, wispy, feather-like achenes (seed heads) that develop during the summer. With their pinkish shades, they create an impression of puffs of smoke remaining on the plant for several weeks. The small, pink, bud-like flowers may not be as impressive as the achenes, but they still add a splash of color to the garden in the spring. And during the fall, the foliage takes on purplish, reddish, and orange hues and then turns to a burgundy shade during winter. 

The 'Stella D'Oro" Dwarf is a re-blooming daylily with fragrant, bright yellow flowers, and brightens any space it occupies with its wonderful colour.

A vigorous climber for large walls, fences etc. and can be trained into a small weeping standard. Blue moon is the hardiest of all the wisterias. The lilac-blue fragrant flowers bloom up to 3 times during the season. To keep Wisteria in check, it can be pruned in late summer or early fall.

Malus 'Thunderchild' - Thunderchild Flowering Crabapple

This is one of several Hybrid Goldenrods that have been developed as commercial cut flowers in Europe. Ratibida  upright Prairie Cone Flower AKA Mexican Hat has several long-stalked flower heads at the top of the stem. Red and Yellow bi colour flowers have 4 to 12 droopy, wide, bright yellow petals (ray flowers), The cone is up to 1½ inches long and covered with hundreds of tiny brown or purplish disk flowers that bloom from the bottom of the cone up.

It is an outstanding perennial with excellent cold hardiness, vigor, and tolerance of heavy clay soils. Blooming in late spring with a profusion of flower spikes, it re-blooms later in the summer when deadheaded. These plants attract butterflies and are deer/rabbit resistant.

Walkers Low is a British variety was selected as the 2007 Perennial Plant of the Year. Plants are mounded and bushy in habit, with small grey-green fragrant leaves. Masses of bright-blue flowers appear on short spikes in early summer, continuing on and off through the fall if the old flowers are regularly removed. Despite the name, this is best in the middle of a border because of its mid-sized stature. Drought tolerant, once established. Flowers are attractive to butterflies.

Extremely ruffled, cream coloured margins extend from the tip of each green leaf all the way down the petiole to the crown.  This ruffled margin is evident even in the juvenile stage of the plant before vernalization.  The leaves of this medium sized hosta are of excellent substance, making them slug resistant in the landscape. 

A Proven Winner Rose Mallow, Cherry Chocolatte is a very robust perennial that fills a lot of space in the garden. Even varieties that are considered “dwarf” grow at least three feet tall and wide, with standard-sized rose mallow growing 4-6 feet tall and wide. Find a place in your landscape where it will not be crowded by other plants, because it will quickly out compete your other perennials for space within a year or two. It is best to find a permanent spot the first time you plant it to avoid the need for transplanting later. Do not prune it to keep it smaller, as this will remove the flower buds.

Tender Zone 4 perennial so it will need heavy mulch before frost!

Small refined dark maroon foliage with a dense branching habit provides an attractive addition to the landscape, Pinkish-white spring blooms contrasts nicely with foliage. Low maintenance plant, but does benefit from pruning in late fall and early spring. 

Can be pruned in all seasons, makes a great hedge.

Aster 'Alert" is a compact mounding selection of our native New England aster.  During spring and summer, plants are clothed in gray-green leaves.  In fall foliage disappears beneath a starry mantle of crimson daisies. Plants are tough and adaptable to moist sunny sites in a variety of garden situations. This cultivar is known for its compact habit, disease resistance and eye-popping flower display.

Delphiniums are the stars of the early summer border. Plants form a low mound of deeply-cut green leaves, bearing tall spikes of satiny flowers. Removing faded spikes at the base will encourage repeat blooming in fall. 

Cut back hard to encourage fresh foliage. Use a high phosphorous fertilizer each year, in early spring. 

Hot, humid summers can bring on potential mildew.
