One of the most common native ferns, growing all over northern regions. Plants form a large, upright clump of big green fronds. In spring the unfurling fiddleheads are often harvested in the wild as a gourmet treat. Roots are spreading, and plants can form quite a large patch in time. Requires plenty of water through the summer, otherwise the foliage may become dormant. Cinnamon-brown fertile fronds push up from the centre of each clump in summer, and these remain attractive all winter long. Prune off dead foliage and fertile fronds in late winter. Deciduous.

The Lipstick Plant, or Aeschynanthus radicans, is a charming and vibrant indoor plant with glossy, green foliage and tubular, lipstick-shaped flowers that add a burst of color, creating a whimsical and tropical atmosphere.

Light Requirement: Thriving in bright, indirect light, place the Lipstick Plant in a location with filtered sunlight or partial shade. It can tolerate lower light conditions but benefits from exposure to moderate to bright light for robust flowering.

Watering Requirement: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. Ensure proper drainage and avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

Mature Height: With a trailing growth habit, Lipstick Plants can reach varying lengths, often cascading 1 to 3 feet (30 to 90 cm). Regular pruning encourages branching and helps maintain a fuller appearance.

Small but Prickly! Handle with caution and care to avoid getting poked with one of it's spikes.

Succulents are well-suited to bright, dry environments and appreciate periods of neglect, making this an ideal house plants whether you have a green thumb or not! 

Requires substantial amounts of light,  receiving at least four to five hours of bright, direct light every day, and ideally six. Placing your Echeveria outdoors during the summer months will help it to thrive.

Pro tip: If you're moving your plant outside in the spring after growing indoors over the winter, make sure to make a gradual transition. Intense afternoon sunlight can cause sunburn, so place your plant where it receives a bit of shade when the sun is strongest.

A rounded shrub with its long lasting flower clusters, the Annabelle Hydrangea is an eye catching and beautiful addition to any garden or landscape. 

Grows best in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade. Tolerates full sun only if grown with consistent moisture. Blooms occur on new wood, so plants should be pruned back close to the ground in late winter to revitalize and to encourage new stem growth and best shape. 

Can adapt to a variety of soil conditions. Be cautious of drought, as the foliage tends to decline in dry conditions, and harsh winters, plants may need to be covered to ensure regrowth.

This Strap leaf Caladium can be grown in both sun and shade.  A fully grown plant is 15"-20" tall. Caladiums are also generally considered to be houseplants, where they prefer bright light or a sunny window.

Caladiums can be an irritant if ingested. 

Characteristics

This early maturing plant produces heavy yields of ½ to ¾ oz red cherry tomatoes, and can produce over 500 tomatoes a season! The fruit is very sweet and flavorful, perfect for eating fresh off the vine or in salads. It has impressive disease resistance, and the fruit itself is crack-resistant. The plant requires support by either staking or cages.

Suggestions: Keep tomatoes away from all members of the Brassica family: cabbage, cauliflower, etc. Eliminate blossom end rot problems by deep watering the plants so that the root system will be less affected by fluctuations in soil moisture.

Gerbera Daisys are a favourite in planters and gardens. They bring fantastic bright colours to landscape and give beautiful cut flowers when ready for trimming.

To protect the upright and delicate stems, place in areas protected from elements such as harsh winds. 

 Grow with a well-drained soil enriched with compost. A sandy soil is ideal.

Always fun and easy to care for. Simply soak in water for 20 minutes approximately every 10 days.

Aloe Vera is a low-maintenance and soothing succulent, well-known for its fleshy, green leaves filled with a cooling gel often used for its healing and moisturizing properties.

Light Requirement: Aloe Vera thrives in bright, indirect to direct sunlight. It does best near a sunny window and can tolerate some direct sun, making it perfect for well-lit indoor spaces.

Watering Requirement: Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. Aloe Vera prefers dry conditions and is highly drought-tolerant. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root rot.

Mature Height: Typically reaching 12 to 24 inches (30 to 60 cm) in height, Aloe Vera forms a rosette of upright leaves and may produce tall flower spikes with yellow or orange blooms under ideal conditions.

Coriandrum sativum. Cilantro "Santo" is bred to be slow bolting. Direct sow short rows of Santo Long Standing cilantro seeds every other week from spring to late summer for continuous harvest. The mature seeds, better known as coriander, are easy to harvest, and used in many dishes - notably curry powder blends. Keep an eye you your cilantro crop because the flowering process (bolting) is famously quick in this plant. As soon as a central stem appears and the uppermost leaves become frilly, it's time to harvest the whole plant, roots and all. 

If growing for seeds, simply allow the plants to flower. Cilantro flowers are highly attractive to beneficial insects like Syrphid flies, lacewings, and lady beetles. Be warned that if the seeds are not harvested when they are mature, you will have volunteer cilantro plants for years to come.

Cilantro will grow somewhat leggy, but productively in partial shade, and it is quite tolerant of cool temperatures. With the protection of a cloche greenhouse, cilantro will continue growing all winter.

Pearl and Jade Pothos, scientifically known as Epipremnum aureum 'Pearls and Jade', is a popular and versatile trailing plant appreciated for its attractive variegated foliage and ease of care.

Light Requirement: Pearl and Jade Pothos thrives in moderate to bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low light conditions. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this may scorch its leaves.

Watering Requirement: Allow the top inch (2.5 cm) of the soil to dry out between waterings, then water thoroughly. Ensure proper drainage to prevent waterlogging, as excessive moisture can lead to root rot.

Mature Length: Pearl and Jade Pothos can grow to impressive lengths, with vines reaching several feet in length when allowed to trail or climb. Regular pruning can help control its size and encourage bushier growth.

The Norfolk Pine, or Araucaria heterophylla, is a graceful indoor conifer with soft, needle-like leaves arranged in whorls, resembling a small Christmas tree, making it a popular choice for festive indoor decor.

Light Requirement: Thriving in bright, indirect light, place the Norfolk Pine near a window with filtered sunlight. It can tolerate lower light conditions but benefits from exposure to moderate to bright light for optimal growth.

Watering Requirement: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the growing season. Water when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. Norfolk Pines prefer well-draining soil and should not be allowed to sit in water.

Mature Height: With a slow growth rate, Norfolk Pines can reach substantial heights indoors, often growing up to 6 to 10 feet (180 to 300 cm). Regular pruning can help manage its size and maintain a more compact form.

This vigorous vine produces very large, brightly coloured flowers all Summer. Great for baskets, large containers and upright vining areas. Small star shaped flowers growing on a winding vine are perfect for lattice or against a fence.

Moonshine Sansevieria, scientifically known as Sansevieria trifasciata 'Moonshine', is a striking plant prized for its unique silvery-green foliage and low maintenance requirements.

Light Requirement: Adaptable to various light conditions, the Snake Plant thrives in indirect light but can tolerate low light. It is versatile enough to flourish in both bright and dim environments.

Watering Requirement: Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, as Snake Plants are drought-tolerant. Water sparingly, ensuring the soil is well-draining to prevent overwatering and root rot.

Mature Height: Maintaining a modest size, the Snake Plant typically reaches a height of around 6 to 12 inches (15 to 20 cm). Its upright growth habit makes it an excellent choice for small spaces and tabletop arrangements.

Zamia Palm, belonging to the genus Zamia, is an ancient and cycad-like plant with a unique crown of pinnate, feather-like fronds, and a stout, often subterranean trunk.

Light Requirement: Preferring bright, indirect light, place the Zamia Palm in a location with filtered sunlight. It can tolerate lower light conditions but benefits from exposure to moderate to bright light.

Watering Requirement: Allow the soil to partially dry between waterings, and water sparingly. Zamia Palms are drought-tolerant and sensitive to overwatering, so a well-draining soil mix is essential.

Mature Height: Reaching a mature height of 2 to 4 feet (60 to 120 cm), the Zamia Palm is a slow grower. Regularly remove any yellowing or damaged fronds to maintain a neat appearance and encourage new growth.

Detroit Dark Red is the perfect all-purpose beet variety. This medium-early variety produces round, dark red roots. These beets are very enjoyable, growing tender and fine-grained throughout. Ideal for use fresh, canned, pickled and frozen. Tops are great for salads too!
