This iris, recently found at a breeder's nursery in the Netherlands, is truly unique and presents a color combination that is unexpected when Siberian iris bloom. This improved Beard-tongue forms low mounds of glossy burgundy leaves, bearing medium-tall stalks of tubular deep pink flowers arranged around the strong stems. Vigorous and easy to grow. Remove faded flowers to encourage continued blooming. Attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. Stems are nice for cutting. Clumps may be easily divided in early spring. Unlike many of the taller selections, this one is ruggedly hardy in colder regions. Drought tolerant once established.

This mid-size, green shrub is quite inconspicuous in summer, when it provides a delicate, green backdrop for showy, summer flowers. Bergenia is incredibly hardy and reliable throughout nearly the entire continent. Plants form a low clump of bold, leathery green leaves, which often turn bronze during winter. Short stems of pink flowers rise above the shiny foliage in mid spring.
