Russian olive is a medium-sized deciduous tree that is drought-resistant. For a very common tree, this is generally not thought of as a good source of food for humans, yet a large number of compounds have been derived from Russian olive making this tree a good source of flavonoids, alkaloids, minerals and vitamins. The fruit of the Russian olive provides food for cedar waxwings, robins, grosbeaks, pheasants and quail.

The Flame Peony lives up to its name as a profuse bloomer with fiery crimson-red flowers, accented by hints of deep coral. Karl Rosenfeld is bright crimson, 16-18 cm flowers appear in mid to late spring. Garden visitors, as well as butterflies and hummingbirds, will love the fragrant, fully double blooms. The glossy, green foliage is very ornamental and provides a colour show in the spring when new growth is copper-burgundy and when the leaves turn soft yellow in the fall.
